The Warming Centre
Spanning the duration of the cold winter months, the Drop In Centre is open as the Warming Centre overnight to offer individuals a safe space to have a coffee and stay warm overnight.
As a community we know individuals stay outdoors and as we continue to find permanent supportive housing solutions to address homelessness we will make sure we have a warm place for these individuals to go during these cold months.
The Warming Centre is not a substitute for the shelter system – Stepping Stone and Dwelling Place will operate as usual through the duration of the Warming Centre, and shelter beds will still be accessible for individuals experiencing homelessness to utilize overnight.
The Warming Centre will be open after our partners (Royal City Mission and Hope House) have closed for the evening. The hours of the Warming Centre are:
Friday and Saturday: 7:00pm-8:00am
Royal City Mission, located at 50 Quebec St is open for dinner when the Warming Centre is closed: Monday-Thursday 3:00pm-9:00pm (dinner at 7:00pm), Friday and Saturday 6:00-7:30pm (dinner at 6:00pm).
If you are interested in supporting the Warming Centre, we are seeking donations of the following items:
Fresh fruit (except apples)
Fresh veggies and dip
Items for making soup and stews (broth, spices, veggies and meat)
Sandwich items (cold meats, tuna, eggs, condiments and cheese slices)
Cheese, meat and crackers
We would also be happy to accept homemade soups, stews, sandwiches and baked goods. Please be sure to let the staff at the Drop In Centre know if you are bringing items in for the Warming Centre as a donation. If you would like to speak with someone about donating, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
